One year befor the leaves came out as I was hiking up the wooded Beech Hill trail, I heard a burst of musical birdsong that I didn’t recognize. Eventually I tracked down its source: one of a small flock of Fox Sparrows that decided to pause for a week or so on their way to their northern breeding range. They stop only occasionally, so it was a treat to see the rich brown and gray spring plumage.
