One of the sure signs of spring here on the 44th parallel is the familiar, two-note call of the Eastern Phoebe, a plain little flycatcher that likes to flip its tail. Phoebes nest dependably in at least three places at Beech Hill Preserve in Rockport—and many more, I’m sure—but I’ll never tell. They catch a lot of flies.
